About the journal

Created in 1983, Ler Historia is a Portuguese per-reviewed historical journal, mainly dedicated to the history of Portugal, the Portuguese empire and the Lusophone countries in the early modern and contemporary periods. Privileging the comparative, transnational and global approaches, the journal’s scope of interests also include other chronologies and geographies (e.g., the Iberian-American world, Africa, Asia, and others). Ler Historia is also strongly committed to promote the reflexive dimension of historical scholarship, encouraging the discussion of theoretical and methodological issues. Ler Historia publishes in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French, and is published by ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Universitário de Lisboa).
